Abstract

"Focus on Greater Bangor" piece on the National Folk Festival, which ended its third and final year in Bangor last month. Buzzing from the economic jolt, Bangor plans its own "American Folk Festival on the Bangor Waterfront" next summer. Other cities that have hosted the National have successfully hosted independent versions of it, with fundraising being the challenge. The festival had an estimated impact of $3.7 million per year on the area and made people more aware of what Bangor has to offer. Bangor organizers are consulting with organizers in Lansing, Mich., and Lowell, Mass., where successful independent festivals are now held.
