Abstract

"Focus on Banking and Finance" piece on Carol Sabasteanksi, who founded Lewiston-based FISC Solutions in 1977, a loan servicing, check processing, and commercial statement printing service for a range of businesses. A new law, called Check 21, part of a movement toward digital check processing, will alter her business, which will complete a $2.3 million upgrade of its data imaging system next spring. When data imaging becomes the norm, her reader sorters will become relics of the past. The company will be able to expand throughout the country, unimpeded by snail mail; and smaller competitors might fold. With details on what Check 21 means for customers.
