Abstract

"Capitol Update" piece on a special committee holding hearings on a tax reform proposal from Gov. John Baldacci and variations on the plan, in unusual holiday season activity. The panel hopes to have a bill to the full Legislature for a vote by the end of January. There are members of both parties who are not pleased with the plan, including Sen. Peter Mills, (R-Cornville), who says the plan might force cuts in current state programs.
