Abstract

"From the Ground Up" piece on recycling efforts by Maine's construction industry. The Maine Department of Transportation has worked with local contractors to research the use of products made from recycled asphalt. Massive concrete recycling efforts accompanied the dismantling of the Million Dollar Portland-South Portland bridge and the Edwards Dam in Augusta. Natural materials were recycled during the widening of the Maine Turnpike and used for fill and erosion control. With details on other proactive efforts.
