"Newsworthy" piece with a brief profile of Bruce Gilbert, an eight-year veteran of the Maine Department of Transportation's (DOT) Scarborough plow crew. During winter storms, more than 1,500 DOT employees are responsible for more than 8,000 miles of DOT-controlled highways and roads. The department's pay rates range from $9.21 to $14.41 per hour, and its maintenance budget this year fell by more than seven percent.
