Abstract

"Business Maine" piece on "Entrepreneurship: The Spirit of Maine," a conference held April 8 at Kennebec Valley Technical College. John Fitzsimmons, president of the Community College System, aims to create a new generation of entrepreneurs among graduates of the state's community colleges. Gov. John Baldacci and numerous state policymakers were in attendance. Joseph Kayne, professor of entrepreurship at Miami University in Ohio, said that public policy must support entrepreurship despite obstacles. Kayne reminded policymakers that the payoff for such support is long-term, eight to ten years or more.
