Abstract

"Capitol Update" piece reporting that the dozens of "small-business" bills before lawmakers are unlikely to pass. Since the Legislature has little money for new or expanded programs, any of the programs that cost money will be killed. Some business owners also could suffer because of other legislation under consideration. For example, Gov. John Baldacci's plan to phase out the Business Equipment Reimbursement programs could raise some small business owners' overall tax bill.
