Abstract

"Racino Watch" piece reporting that the Legal and Veterans Affairs Committee voted overwhelmingly to support the Passamaquoddy Tribe's plan for a 1,500-slot machine racino in Washington County. Gov. John Baldacci opposes the plan. The committee rejected a handful of bills that would have limited the amount of money racino patrons could lose in a 24-hour period. In other news, Penn National Gaming announced last month that plans are moving forward for its $3.8 million purchase of Miller's Restaurant in Bangor. The restaurant will serve as Penn National's temporary location until it can locate a permanent facility in the Bass Park area.
