Abstract

"Capitol Update" piece reporting that the Business Equipment Tax Reimbursement program (BETR) received a 10 percent cut as part of overall reductions used to eliminate a borrowing package that would have balanced the state budget. Chris Hall of the Maine State Chamber of Commerce said the cut sends a terrible message to investors. Gov. John Baldacci said he will work to eventually repeal the property tax on business equipment.
