Abstract

"Newsworthy" piece reporting on a Maine Center for Economic Policy study that finds only 53 percent of small businesses surveyed in Maine offer health coverage, and 8 percent of those dropped coverage from 2002 to 2004. Cost increases are prompting more businesses to cover less of their employees's health care costs or to drop coverage altogether. Fifty seven percent of National Federation of Independent Business members in Maine do not consider the state's Dirigo Health plan to be an affordable alternative.
