Abstract

Bath City Councilor James Daigle wants to open up the process of local economic development, claiming City Manager John Bubier operates behind closed doors. Daigle and others on the council support the creation of an economic development commission that would take over some of the work being handled by Bubier and James Upham, the city's director of planning and development. Stephen Cole, a community developer for Coastal Enterprises Inc. in Wiscasset, wonders why more communities, especially in southern Maine, don't take advantage of regional development programs, but rather insist on remaining fiercely local.
