Abstract

"Focus: Downeast Region" piece on the Marine Environmental Research Institute (MERI) in Blue Hill, with a focus on the $312,000 expansion of the MERI Center. The center is the public face of MERI's research operation and home to an aquarium room and touch tank. Susan Shaw, founder and executive director of MERI, said an expansion is necessary because the aquarium is so popular, drawing an average of 300 kids a week during the summer. The aquarium room will be more than doubled to 570 feet, transforming it into the MERI Center's Ocean Aquarium.
