Abstract

Article on a proposal by Ralph Howe to build a biodiesel manufacturing plant on his 69-acre South China property. If approved, the refinery would pump out more than three million gallons of pure biodiesel a year, making Howe a major player in the national biodiesel industry. Scott Pierz and other China town officials are evaluating Howe's proposal, though many haven't immediately warmed to the idea. Howe has been reluctant to divulge details about the proprietary manufacturing process, which he insists is environmentally-friendly. Howe's proposal was due to be discussed by the planning board in mid-September.
