Abstract

"Capitol Update" piece on Maine's lobbying disclosure laws, which currently require companies, trade groups and organizations that lobby the Maine Legislature to register and report their lobbying costs. The same groups are exempt from reporting when they lobby executive branch agencies. A report released last month by the Center for Public Integrity brought attention to the loophole, and some legislative leaders and Gov. John Baldacci said the state should consider adding lobbyists reporting for the executive branch lobbying.
