Abstract

"Capitol Update" piece on a state commission that is studying what constitutes a "living wage" in the state. The Maine Center for Economic Policy has calculated that on average, an earner with one child needs to earn an hourly wage of $14.84 full-time, or $30,865 annually, to meet a basic needs budget. The figures vary widely throughout the state. Peter Gore of the Maine State Chamber of Commerce worries about the impact on employers.
