Abstract

"Newsworthy" piece reporting that season pass sales for Maine's ski resorts are strong this year, according to Greg Sweetser, executive director of Portland-based Ski Maine. Sweetser is predicting about 1.3 million skiers statewide, which is in line with the past three seasons. Ski Maine targets Massachusetts skiers who account for a large portion of the state's ski industry revenue, as well as Maine residents, who account for a little more than half of the state's skier days. In 1997, Ski Maine created the Winter Kids organization, which allows all children in fifth, sixth and seventh grades to ski for free at associated ski areas.
