Abstract

"Capitol Update" piece reporting that a recent study done for the state Office of Innovation concluded that Maine should be investing $1 billion a year in research and development by 2010 if the state is going to compete in a technology-driven global economy. The report calls for $120 million of the $1 billion to come from the state, the remainder from the private sector. Rep. David Bowles, R-Sanford, said it is unlikely that Republican lawmakers will support another bond issue this session.
