Abstract

Independent surfboard makers like Ogunquit-based Kirk Stockhaus will be affected by the December closing of California-based Clark Foam. The company produces 90 percent of the foam blanks used to make surfboards in the U.S. Stockhaus says in the long-term, increased competition might lead to cheaper blanks, but if he can't get blanks to make surfboards this year, he might end up waiting on tables again.
