Abstract

"Focus on Human Resources" piece by Douglas P. Currier, of the Labor and Employment Law Group at Verrill Dana in Portland. He details changes in state and federal employment rules that occurred in 2005, including: Maine's family care leave law; the addition of sexual orientation to the list of classes protected under the Maine Human Rights Act; differing state and federal laws governing overtime compensation; Maine's severance pay law; and differing federal and state definitions of a disability. In addition, several court rulings addressed age discrimination, the Pregnancy Discrimination Act, and gender discrimination.
