Abstract

"Newsworthy" piece with a profile of David Littell, new commissioner of the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). Littell's first priority is to regain the public's trust in the wake of the resignation of outgoing commissioner Dawn Gallagher. Under Gallagher, the DEP was found to have violated Maine's Freedom of Access Act by holding private talks with Rumford Paper Co. Littell is confident he can balance the state's environmental and economic interests in the face of political pressure.
