Abstract

Article on Maine's business climate, which frequently ranks near the bottom on national business climate studies. Many local observers debate whether those studies, which focus on taxes and regulations, measure the right issues. Christopher St. John, executive director at the Maine Center for Economic Policy (MECEP), believes that the environment, health care and education also matter to business. With comments by Bill Becker, CEO of the Maine Heritage Policy Center; John Oliver, director of government relations at L.L. Bean; and Chris Hall, director of the Maine State Chamber of Commerce.
