Abstract

"Focus on Greater Portland Region" piece on a large number of transactions, recent and planned, that could establish a new image and direction for Scarborough. Ram Properties, founded by Howard Goldenfarb in 1971 and known for spurring the Old Port revival, will move from Portland to Scarborough. Development and redevelopment is occurring on Route One, a corridor for which the town set design standards in the 1990s, which are credited with changing the character of the area for the better. The town wants to keep at least 25 percent of its valuation in commercial property, in order to keep the tax rate down and to encourage diversity among employers. With a sampling of commercial development proposals in the town.
