Abstract

"Capitol Update" piece on the Business Equipment Tax Reimbursement (BETR) program, pointing out that Gov. John Baldacci and Maine's business community have a misunderstanding on the issue. Dana Connors, president of the Maine State Chamber of Commerce, said Baldacci promised to include a proposal in his supplemental budget to return the program to full strength by eliminating the 10 percent cut in funding imposed on the program last year. Baldacci said his commitment was to propose an elimination of the personal property tax on business equipment, calling it a top priority of this session.
