Abstract

"Capitol Update" piece on the Maine economy, noting that the economy slowed in 2005, resulting in a need to re-project state revenues. Strong business revenues, including increased corporate income taxes and capital gains, helped offset weak sales tax and individual income tax numbers. The Maine Revenue Forecasting Commission decreased projected state revenues by $9 million - $13 million. Sen. Richard Nass (R-Acton) doubts that the figure is accurate. Given the economic forecast, Nass expected revenue projections to be decreased by $30 million - $40 million.
