Abstract

"Compass Points" piece reporting that Maine has the least densely crowded population of any state east of the Mississippi. The U.S. Census Bureau predicts only a 10.7 percent growth rate for the state through 2030, compared to 29.2 percent nationally. However, the effects of terrorism, global warming with increasing storm intensity, and computer technology could all attract people to Maine and transform its sparsely populated landscape.
