Abstract

"Capitol Update" piece on a proposal before the Legislature's labor committee under which workers would have the right to refuse to attend a religious or political talk required by their employer. The panel is likely to split on the issue. Union officials said some workers in Maine are listening to political and religious talks forced on them by their employers. But some on the committee argued a worker fired for not attending would have cause to sue their employer anyway. Others worry that legislating the issue could hurt business owners.
