Abstract

"Focus on Northern Maine" piece on Jeff Russell, 41, of Hampden, an avid pilot who is opening the Center for Classic Aircraft Skills at the Millinocket Municipal Airport. The venture will be a combination flight school and sightseeing service using Piper Cubs. A Federal Aviation Administration rule change has made it easier to become a sports pilot, and Russell thinks Millinocket is the ultimate base for bush flying. Although the number of student pilots remained steady in 2004 and 2005, Russell hopes to rely on the "vintage flying" angle and to set up companies elsewhere in the country.
