Abstract

"Capitol Update" piece on the rewriting of federal telecom legislation. Maine senator Olympia Snowe was unsuccessful in getting her Internet neutrality amendment adopted, which addressed whether charges could be assessed for preferred treatment for delivery of messages and access to websites. A section of the Senate bill would help promote wireless Internet access in rural areas by allowing licenses to be offered for smaller geographical areas.
