Abstract

"Focus on Education and Training" piece on the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE), which has eight chapters in Maine. SCORE helps provide entrepreneurs with case-specific advice from a team of experienced volunteers and SCORE counselors. Bill Murray, a longtime volunteer with the Portland chapter, says, "In a lot of cases, we're not like counselors but reference librarians." SCORE volunteers also host workshops for a nominal cost. Nancy Pugh and her partner Rob Evans, own the successful Portland restaurants, Hugo's and Duckfat. They still meet with Craig Foster, who has been their mentor since they moved to Portland in 2002.
