Abstract

"Business Maine: Central & Western" piece reporting that the town of Poland owes roughly $2.7 million to bottled water company Poland Spring after an audit revealed a series of bookkeeping errors. The town for six years mistakenly kept millions in tax revenues that should have been sent back to the company under a Tax Increment Financing arrangement. Rosemary Roy, Poland's assistant town manager, said the town is working to figure out a repayment schedule. A number of residents are calling for the ouster of the town's board of selectmen as a result of the mistakes.
