Abstract

"Capitol Update" piece on the Maine Workers' Compensation Board, which recently ruled that Poland Spring's requirement that employees immediately report workplace accidents violates a provision of the law designed to protect those employees from discrimination. Peter Gore of the Maine State Chamber of Commerce calls the ruling "disastrous and irresponsible." But Jim Case, attorney for the Maine AFL-CIO, said that workers have 90 days to file a claim for a good reason, adding that injuries often happen that people don't know have happened immediately. It is likely the case will be appealed to the Maine Supreme Judicial Court.
