Abstract

"Focus on Energy & Utilities" piece on Hayes Gahagan, who is proposing a Loring BioEnergy plant in Limestone. The 55-megawatt congeneration plant would pipe in natural gas through a dormant jet fuel pipeline to produce electricity for the wholesale market and then sell the heat generated thermal energy. Gahagan and his partners face regulatory, financial, and other obstacles, but Gahagan believes the project would be a good fit for the talents of the Aroostook County workforce. In the future, he would like to use ethanol as fuel, which he hopes would be produced at the Loring Commerce Centre from locally grown canola. With details on the financial complexities of the plan, including obstacles presented by the Maine Public Utilities Commission.
