Abstract

Bangor-based Telford Group is developing an unmanned, remote-controlled blimp for military use in terrorism surveillance and patrolling borders. Telford Group received a recently announced it will be receiving $1.5 million in funding from the U.S. government in 2007, the third year in a row it has received that amount. The company is developing a prototype at the former Loring Air Force base in Limestone, and hopes to soon be manufacturing airships there. Bob Ziegelaar, Telford's president, said Telford is a $50 million to $60 million company employing 85 workers in Maine.
