Abstract

"Newsworthy" piece on a new report by the Brookings Institution which outlines a plan to revive Maine's struggling economy. The proposals suggest the state invest nearly $400 million in regional planning, land preservation and job growth, all funded by deep cuts in government spending and at least one tax increase. Alan Caron, executive director of GrowSmart Maine, believes the action plan is a viable one, though finding legislative support will be tough. Caron, a Waterville native, founded GrowSmart Maine in 2004 to help curb suburban sprawl.
