Abstract

"From the Ground Up" piece on rising construction costs, noting that higher costs do not necessarily mean bad news for Maine's commercial real estate market. For starters, higher construction costs mean developers must charge higher rents for new buildings, forcing businesses to compare costs of new construction versus renovation. This has resulted in fewer new buildings being constructed, which bodes well for existing vacancies. Details.
