Abstract

"Capitol Update" piece reporting that women in Maine continue to get paid less for doing the same work as men, and that women are more likely to live in poverty. Sharon Barker, director of the Women's Resource Center at the University of Maine, said that the gender wage gap among full-time workers in Maine is an average of 77 cents. The study by the Women's Employment Issues committee and the Maine Jobs Council did find that fewer Maine women live in poverty compared to the national rate.
