Abstract

"Newsworthy" piece with a profile of Charles Carpenter, a research fellow at Idexx laboratories in Westbrook and founder of Historic Map Works, soon to be a subscription-based service allowing users to search locations on historic maps. His goal is to have the first GIS-linked digital map of North America going back 200 years. According to Carpenter, only the Library of Congress has a larger collection of rare cadastral maps. He plans to donate his maps to the Osher Map Library at the University of Southern Maine when he has finished scanning them.
