Abstract

"Capitol Update" piece on the state Legislature's Joint Select Committee on Research, Economic Development and the Innovation Economy, which is recommending Maine boost its annual investment in research and development from one percent of all general fund spending to three percent. Rep. Emily Cain (D-Orono), co-chair of the panel, said there is a clear track record of investments in R&D paying dividends to the state. Meanwhile, a new R&D bond proposal would ask voters to approve $250 million in borrowing.
