Two competing proposals to remake the Maine State Pier are vying for public support in Portland. The real estate developers, The Olympia Companies and Ocean Properties Ltd., are becoming fierce rivals in the process. Both companies are proposing to erect a hotel and an office building on or near the pier, and both have set aside open space for parks.
