Abstract

"Focus: Building & Real Estate" piece on the Developers Collaborative, a loose-knit group of developers who work together to promote a smart-growth agenda while mentoring younger developers. Founders Richard Berman, Dirk Thomas, and Jim Hatch all share a belief that developers should redevelop urban cores and older suburbs rather than building on undeveloped land. Urban planning student Kevin Bunker will soon join Berman as a young prospective developer. Peter Bass, another member of the collaborative, says the group will be able to complete bigger and more complex projects that they could on their own.
