Abstract

Some 250 visiting soccer teams will come to Maine for the 2007 U.S. Youth Soccer Region 1 Championships, from June 29-July 3, with events being held at facilities in Falmouth and Bowdoin College in Brunswick. The statewide organization Soccer Maine lobbied for Maine to host the event, and the Convention & Visitor's Bureau of Greater Portland is helping with logistics. An estimated 31,000 hotel room nights will be booked in Maine and New Hampshire, and the local economy will benefit by about $9 million.
