Abstract

"Business Maine: Central & Western" piece reporting that Miller Industries, which had operated textile mills in Lisbon and Lewiston, recently was ordered by a judge to pay a $150,000 fine for not properly disposing of hazardous waste. The company, which still operates a facility in Lisbon Falls, was investigated for keeping containers of hazardous chemicals at its Lisbon mill, despite not having the proper credentials to handle, move or store the waste. In 2002, Jo Miller, former owner of the mill, told employees to move waste into the Lisbon mill rather than hire contractors to dispose of the chemicals.
