Abstract

Mike LaVecchia of York put his boatbuilding skills to work designing and building a hollow wooden surfboard, which unlike a foam board is environmentally friendly. He had no intention of starting a business, but now Grain Surfboards is working hard to keep up with demand. The company's newest product is a DIY wooden surfboard kit. Grain Surfboards seems to have found a market niche with its "green" boards.
