Abstract

"Focus: Health Care" piece featuring an interview in question-and-answer format with Peter Benard, president of Ledgewood Construction in South Portland. About 30 percent of Ledgewood's annual revenue comes from renovation and construction of hospitals, medical office buildings, assisted living facilities and other health care facilities. In Maine, the value of health care construction starts has more than doubled since 2000, growing to $179.2 million in 2006. Benard discusses the unique aspects of this kind of construction, and how the company came to focus on this niche.
