Abstract

"Business Maine: Northern" piece noting that Bangor police have rebutted an insinuation that a 22 percent spike in crime last year was caused by Hollywood Slots, that gambling facility that opened two years ago. Dennis Bailey, executive director of CasinosNo!, issued a news release October 4 suggesting that Bangor's increase in larceny crimes be studied for a possible connection to gambling. Deputy Police Chief Peter Arno dismissed any connection between the larceny rates and gambling, instead blaming drug use.
