Abstract

"Capitol Update" piece on the effects of the Canadian dollar being valued on par with the U.S. dollar. Adrienne Kearney, associate professor of economics at the University of Maine, said it has been helping the state's economy for some time, but added that measuring that impact is difficult. The Legislature's appropriations committee has asked state tourism officials to review their advertising programs to see if they should direct some advertising funds toward encouraging more Canadians to visit Maine to take advantage of the favorable exchange rate.
