Abstract

Article on the rapidly expanding alpaca industry in Maine, noting that the number of alpaca farms in the state has more than doubled since 2004. Raini Perry, president of the Maine Alpaca Association (MAA) and owner of Raini Ridge Alpacas in Palermo, said there may be close to 100 farms in the state if you count "pasture pets." With comments by Cindy and Tim Lavan, owners of Chase Tavern Farm in Bowdoin; Darlene Reardon, co-owner of Full Moon Alpacas in Auburn; and Pamela Harwood, owner of Longwoods Alpacas in Cumberland.
