Abstract

"Focus on Professional Services" piece on Maine's new Business and Consumer Court docket, which began operations in July, with its judges hearing only business and consumer cases. Chief Justice Leigh Saufley believes it will take until the end of next year to assess the success of the court. Maine's court is unusual in that consumers will get equal attention and can file claims against businesses. Over time, judges will develop expertise in business law and the system will become more predictable, efficient, and transparent. With details on how two judges will cover the state and a look at the inside workings of the business court.
