Abstract

"Capitol Update" piece reporting that employers will be paying $33.7 million less in unemployment insurance taxes than they would have without passage of a bill overhauling the system. Laura Fortman, Labor Commissioner, said the decrease occurred because fewer people are requesting unemployment benefits and the bill reduced the extent of unemployment from 21 months of payments to 18 months. As part of the overhaul, a new training program was created that will help unemployed workers get trained for jobs in areas where there is a need.
