Abstract

"Business Maine: Statewide" piece with an interview in question-and-answer format with Walter Leach Jr., executive vice president of corporate development for FairPoint Communications Inc. In early December the staff at the Maine Public Utilities Commission (PUC) urged the commission to reject the Maine part of FairPoint's $2.7 billion bid for Verizon's landlines in northern New England. Leach discusses the company's plans for Verizon's Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont telephone network and whether the company can afford the merger.
